Is a Live Wedding Painter worth it?

When planning your wedding, you probably haven’t thought about having a wedding artist as part of your day, as this isn’t something you see at every wedding. A wedding artist is a completely unique type of supplier that still isn’t very big in the UK wedding space. In fact, I first saw it on TikTok and thought, wow, that’s such a unique idea. After researching others who offer it, I realised there are only a handful who take a more realistic approach to painting rather than a free-flowing style.

Art is transferable to almost every industry, with illustrators and caricaturists already becoming popular at weddings. Yet I feel we sometimes forget what the whole purpose of the day is for: you, the couple getting married. We spend so much time making sure guests have everything they need that often you walk away with only a few things to remember your day by, such as photos and video. These are wonderful additions, but why not have something created just for the two of you? How often have you attended a wedding and kept the thoughtful gift left on the table? More often than not, those little extras eventually end up in the recycling. A painting, however, will last a lifetime. It won’t be something you look at once or twice before storing away. It becomes part of your home and your story.

Why Choose a Wedding Painting?

It’s not just a painting. It’s a memory of a captured moment in time, created with love and attention to detail. It’s something you will treasure for the rest of your lives, a centrepiece in your home that eventually becomes part of your family history.

To make sure your painting lasts a lifetime, I only use professional archival materials. These are recognised by museums for their quality. My paints of choice are Golden and Winsor & Newton Professional acrylics, both with the highest lightfast rating, meaning they reflect light rather than absorb it. I also work on archival-grade canvases so your piece will stay vibrant for decades to come.

Is a Wedding Painting Worth the Investment?

You may be wondering why hiring a live artist is considered expensive. The simple answer is that your painting will be a one-of-a-kind, lifelong piece of art. Unlike many other wedding expenses that fade once the day is over, this is something you will treasure forever.

There will always be cheaper alternatives, however cheap doesn’t usually reflect the skill, time and quality materials that go into creating something designed to last. A lower price may mean a piece of art that fades, cracks or simply doesn’t stand the test of time. When you are investing in a wedding painting, you want something that will hold its beauty for generations, not just a few years.

When you book me, you are choosing the whole experience. You get someone with experience who will also spend time with your guests, showing them how a blank canvas slowly transforms into your love story. I am there with you throughout your day, and afterwards I dedicate up to 30–40 hours in my studio refining your painting so it is absolutely perfect to hang on your wall. From the moment you book, so much time, care and love goes into every brushstroke.

There are no hidden costs. Everything is discussed at the time of booking and listed clearly on my website, so you won’t be hit with any unexpected charges later. This is a personal and transparent process from start to finish.

The Guest Experience

On the day, I stay with you until around 9pm. This means your guests get to see your painting come to life over the course of the celebration. At first they might look concerned at the rough beginning stages, but by the end of the night they will be amazed at the transformation. Your painting becomes a talking point for your guests. Many will never have experienced a live painter at a wedding before, and it’s a memory they will carry with them too.

Often, I will begin painting the background or scenery in advance, and then once you’re ready, we capture a photo of you both which I use to bring the scene together. Guests love to check in throughout the day, but I encourage you as the couple to save your reveal until the end of the night. It makes for a beautiful final moment for your photographer to capture.

How It Works

Your painting begins once the important photographs are taken. Ideally this is after your ceremony, once the confetti shot and group photo are finished. Guests can head for a drink while I capture some styled images of you both, which we will have already discussed during your consultation.

Most couples choose an early-day moment such as the ceremony exit, but it can also be later, like your first dance. All I ask you to keep in mind is the amount of painting time available on the day. At the end of the evening the piece will return with me to my studio where I add the final details.

Set Up and Practical Details

You might be wondering about space and mess. I have considered every detail to make my setup simple and stress-free. I use a small protective sheet under my easel, bring my own linens, and set up a rope barrier to guide guests to view from behind. This keeps everything neat and avoids anyone brushing too close to the paints.

The painting won’t be fully complete on the day. There may be blank areas, but rest assured that once it’s back in the studio, I’ll finish it with care. I keep you updated with photographs and even timelapse videos so you can see your painting evolve.

Let’s Create Something Special

You may not have thought about a wedding painting before, but now perhaps you’re imagining one on your wall at home. This is your chance to have a completely unique piece of art that tells your love story in a way nothing else can.

If you’d like to chat about your day and find the right package for you, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s create some magic on canvas and give you the ultimate piece of art for your home.
